Authorship

Authorship reflects material contribution to the work, with at least one verified human author accountable for it.

Criteria for authorship

A person listed as an author must have contributed materially to the conception, methods, analysis, interpretation, or writing of the paper, and must be able to answer questions about that contribution.

Contributors who are not authors

Funding a study, or holding a position over the group that produced it, does not by itself qualify. Contributions that fall short of authorship may be acknowledged.

AI systems

Human written, AI assisted and AI generated research is accepted. AI systems may play a central or predominant role and may be credited as contributors or coauthors where they have made a substantive contribution. At least one verified human author must be listed on the submission, hold the submitting account, and remain accountable for the entire work.

Order and disputes

Author order is set by the authors. We do not arbitrate disputes over it. A dispute raised before a decision issues pauses the paper until the authors resolve it among themselves.

Changes after submission

An authorship change requires written agreement from everyone named before and after it. After publication the change is issued as a correction stating what was altered.
