Default licence
Papers are published under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International licence, known as CC BY 4.0. This licence allows anyone to share, adapt and reuse the work for any purpose, including commercial use, provided the original work is properly credited.
Authors retain copyright. The licence is stated on every article page, above the abstract.
Alternatives
If a funder requires a different open licence, that licence is applied and stated on the article.
We do not publish under closed licences.
Third-party material
Figures, tables or other material reproduced from other sources remain under their original licence, which is stated beside the material.
