Conflicts of interest

How conflicts are declared, and what happens next.

Editors and reviewers

An editor or reviewer who has co-authored with a submitting author within the last four years, or who shares an institution with them, does not handle the paper. Declared conflicts are recorded on the decision.

Authors

Competing interests are declared in one statement and published on the article. A declared interest does not affect assessment. An undisclosed interest that emerges later is handled as a correction.
