Publisher’s letter
The next generation of academic journals
Dear researcher,
Welcome to Accelerated Science.
Research output has risen steadily for two decades. The time taken to review it has not fallen. A paper waits months for reviewers to find a weekend for it, and the fastest-moving fields frequently have no journal to wait for at all.
We have been in publishing since 1998. We built a system that produced two hundred thousand books, then pointed it at technical and teaching material in local languages, for places across Africa, Latin America and Asia that no publisher was going to serve. The volume was a means. The purpose was reaching readers the industry had written off. Research is the last place we have not applied it.
AI will multiply how much research the world produces. Nothing has multiplied how much of it gets checked, and that gap is where weak work passes and good work goes unread.
What gets published becomes what gets taught, prescribed and legislated. The door to it is currently held by people with no time and no reason to hurry. Open it properly, judge a paper on what it says rather than on whose name is on it, and the next result that matters stops waiting two years to be found.
